Bill and Helene Pittler

Bill and Helene Pittler

Bill Pittler '59 and his wife, Helene, became members of the Legacy Council when they assigned a life insurance policy to the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation, Inc. to fund an endowment to enhance the quality of student writing at the School of Law.

Bill shared the following thoughts about his gift: "I felt a loyalty and a responsibility to the school. I credit my experiences in law school and the relationships I formed there for whatever successes I've had."

Life insurance gifts can be made in one of three ways: donate a fully paid policy; assign a policy on which premiums are still owed; or purchase a new policy naming the Foundation as the owner. In the latter two cases, the donor makes deductible annual gifts to the Foundation to cover the premiums. In the right situation, a relatively modest annual outlay of premium can produce a substantial benefit.

For more information concerning a gift of life insurance or other planned gifts, please contact the Office of Planned Giving: 410-706-2069.
